Accommodation

Our accommodation options are:

Tent sites from $20 per person, per night
Backpacker from $30 per person, per night
Doubles rate for cabins $115 – $145 per night
The Transporter $65 per person (first 4 people; $50pp additional guests)
Continental Breakfast & BBQ Packs available on request

The Bunkhouse
The bunkhouse can accommodate 13 people in a combination of bunks and single beds. The sleeping area is split into two dorms, separated by a curtain. Great for families. Downstairs is a large common room, which leads to a sizeable cooking and lounging area. Outside is a covered veranda with lounging chairs, which looks onto a large lawn surrounded by garden. Barbecues are alongside for those wishing to cook outside – or partake of our evening BBQ meal packs.

Cabins
Fancy a bit more privacy? We have two cabins (“Jack” and “Jill”) that are set up with a queen bed in each, and are completely self-contained. “Jill” has wheelchair access.

The Bach
Then there is the “bach”. It has a double and single bed, kitchen facilities and a toilet outside. Guests can use the bunkroom shower facilities about 15m away. Three showers available.

The Transporter
We’re always adding new ideas to continue the slightly quirky theme of the Crows Nest. Our latest addition is The Transporter, an ex-racecar transporter which has been converted into a seven bunk accommodation unit. The Transporter has a large, partially enclosed and covered decking area – perfect for travelling families.

The Housetruck
Or travel back in time to the ’70s and stay in Bill’s old Bedford housetruck. Complete with wooden shingles, a wee veranda and a cosy cabin. Has cooking facilities and history!

Camping
For those choosing to be more self-sufficient, there is a sizeable camping area for tents and motorhomes. A 240v power terminal is available. There is a further toilet between the bunkhouse and bach, for use of campers. In addition there is a washing machine available for guests.

Facilities
The following facilities are available for the use of all guests:

  • Outdoor Bath
  • BBQ Areas
  • Clothes washing area (washing machine available)
  • Garden setting with rural outlook to the Hawkdun Range
  • Well equipped kitchen and outdoor cooking and eating area
  • Swimming pool (400 metres away).  Small charge applies

Food Options

  • We can provide BBQ meal packs which you cook yourselves in the kitchen or the bbqs.  Prices are from $20 per person and these must be ordered when you make your booking or at least a week prior to your arrival.
  • The Oturehua Tavern (100 metres away) provides excellent, English style Pub Grub.  If you intend to dine at the Pub please let us know when you book so we can inform them of expected numbers.
  • Continental Breakfast Packs – $10 per person.

Bookings

The Rail Trail is very popular during the summer season so bookings are essential. At times there can be hundreds of cyclists on the track. We suggest you book as early as possible to ensure you get the accommodation you want. A non-refundable deposit is required to secure all accommodation except the camp sites.
