Activities

There is plenty to see and do around Oturehua so why not spend a few days with us and take in some of the following:

  • Curling on the Ida Dam – This event takes place every two years, provided the dam freezes. It is highly competitive and includes a lot of formalities like ‘The Court Session’ or initiation. To read more about curling click HERE!
  • Hayes Engineering – A local engineering firm which invented many items for the farming industry still in use today. To read more about this local entity click HERE!
  • St Bathans – An original gold mining town famous for its haunted pub, The Vulcan, and The Blue Lake.  It is only 21 km from Oturehua by road. You can read more about it HERE!
  • Golden Progress Mine – Just a short cycle and walk from Oturehua. It is one of the earliest mines in Central Otago and still has a Poppet Head still standing. Read more HERE!
  • GeoCaching – There are a number of caches located along the Rail Trail and around Oturehua. To read about it and see what caches you can find, click HERE!
  • Farm Tours – We can arrange a visit to a number of the large sheep farms in the area.
  • Hunting & Fishing – by arrangement
