On the Rail Trail

Rain and sunshine, regardless of the weather, you will find cyclists on the rail trail.  I had a group of 8 people from Christchurch staying with me last night.  Really nice group of people.  They had an awesome dinner at the Tavern and enjoyed staying in the Crow’s Nest!

On the Rail Trail

Now I did a bit of the Otago Central Rail Trail. It was just from Oturehua to Wedderburn and back again.

Sun was out and we took our little dog Ben with us.. Sorry, had no idea that dogs are not allowed on the rail trail… Now I know.

Anyway, we had a great time out there and can’t wait to do more of the rail trail.  But be careful in the moment, there are many magpies attacking you because its breeding season and I was wearing Red, so don’t wear Red.

Snow and rain along the central otago rail trail

The winter is back. The last days it was getting colder. Raining and over night snow up in the mountains.

Not a lot of cyclists on the rail trail. And the people who where tough enough to cycle it were a bit freezing.

The view along the trail is nice. You can see the mountains with snow on.

Fingers cross that the weather gets better soon!

Otago Rail Trail Camping

The Crow’s Nest backpackers now has a new camping area available for Rail Trail riders.

We have about 8 suitable sites and all within an easy walk to the kitchens and shower facilities.

Prices are $15 per person per night.

Hello world!

Well we have just concluded our negotiations and we are all set to take over the management of the Crow’s Nest for the 2009/10 season.

We are really excited about this opportunity and will be a welcome relief from the daily grind of Christchurch.  It’s also great that friends Grahame & Liz Jones have recently taken over the Oturehua Tavern so between us we are looking forward to a great summer.

Julia has yet to do the Rail Trail but plans to ride it before things get too busy.  Justin has done it twice, once over four days and then again over two days.  He has also recently cycled the length of the country, all 2,000 km, in order to work up an appetite for some oysters in Bluff.

Anyway, we look forward to meeting all you keen cyclists over the coming months.
