About

Crows Nest Accommodation is situated on the Otago Rail Trail in Oturehua (the Sun God), at marker 148 (which is 148 miles from Dunedin).

Oturehua is located in the Ida Valley, 23 km from Lauder and 25 km from Ranfurly. The distance to Clyde is 67 km or 90 km to Middlemarch. We are very close to the highest point of the trail at 618 metres and a short distance from the 45th Parallel South.

The Crow’s Nest cabins, lodge and small camping ground are nestled in a lawn and garden setting with stunning views of the Hawkdun mountains. With room for children to play and BBQ areas, an outdoor bath and a HOT TUB it is an ideal place to relax after a day on the trail.

Oturehua is famous for its curling which is held every two years (weather permitting) on the Ida Dam. Each year in June we are overtaken by hundreds of brave souls on motorcycles who attend the Brass Monkey. Also, Hayes Engineering was where many innovations, still in use today, were invented for the farming industry, and the Golden Progress mine site gives a glimpse of our gold mining history.
