Space for everyone!

Tom, a friend of the owner, was my first guest. He was walking the rail trail and stayed three nights with us.

Than the campsite was used not only for a campervan. We had also two horses staying with us!

Room enough for everyone! So if you are on a bicycle, or you are walking, or on horses come and stay in the Crow’s Nest Accommodation in Oturehua on the Rail Trail.

Otago Rail Trail Camping

The Crow’s Nest backpackers now has a new camping area available for Rail Trail riders.

We have about 8 suitable sites and all within an easy walk to the kitchens and shower facilities.

Prices are $15 per person per night.

Easter 2010 is filling up fast

Even thought it’s nearly eight months away, bookings for easter are coming in hard and fast.  We have a few large groups staying with us over Easter so if you are planning on doing the Rail Trail over easter you should not leave your accommodation to the last minute.

For those interested in motorcycles we may be hosting a group of motorcyclists over the period.  They are mainly grey haired men on expensive (and quiet) BMW bikes (no Harleys in this group).  They are going to be camping and as part of the Grass Monkey.  A new event for those that don’t like getting on their bikes in he cold.

Maybe its the Weather!

It could be the lovely sunny days we are having as bookings are coming in hard and fast for the coming season.

New Years night is looking particularly busy already so if you are planning on doing the rail trail around then make sure you book early.  Easter is also another period when we could be fully booked.

Check out our accommodation options above.

Hello world!

Well we have just concluded our negotiations and we are all set to take over the management of the Crow’s Nest for the 2009/10 season.

We are really excited about this opportunity and will be a welcome relief from the daily grind of Christchurch.  It’s also great that friends Grahame & Liz Jones have recently taken over the Oturehua Tavern so between us we are looking forward to a great summer.

Julia has yet to do the Rail Trail but plans to ride it before things get too busy.  Justin has done it twice, once over four days and then again over two days.  He has also recently cycled the length of the country, all 2,000 km, in order to work up an appetite for some oysters in Bluff.

Anyway, we look forward to meeting all you keen cyclists over the coming months.
